I suspect 58,000 fewer Americans would have died if she had been calling the shots.

We had no business being in that war. We sacrificed the lives of American soldiers.

I disagree with Rand’s opinion that we should stay in the war but agree that protestors were immoral to support communism.

It's too bad more people didn't pay attention at the time. We could have saved a lot of beautiful lives.

Rand’s views on the Vietnam war seem pretty contradictory. I don’t see how she could have done a better job if she were calling the shots.

Contradictory in what way?

Literally everything you wrote in your article.

Try to imagine for a minute if she was an actual politician making actual policy. What would it actually be.

Ok, first of all, I didn't write the article. I'm sure that, if Ayn Rand were a politician, she wouldn't have sent soldiers there in the first place. She knew before the war started that Communism is not monolithic, so the "Domino Theory" was bunkum. She also knew going there was not defending the lives or freedoms of US citizens.

I mean I would hope so. But the article says in several spots that she would also support sending troops to fight communism. Hence why it seems so contradictory.

I suspect she’d commit American forces to battle communism in places that presented a threat to our nation (a communist Vietnam certainly wouldn’t have fit that criteria). Most likely Europe and South and Central America would.

The article says she had at least some support for troops in Vietnam.

I think she’s just talking out both sides of her mouth.
