By retroactively seizing earned wealth, California is acting as a ruler rather than a servant, treating its greatest producers like a piggy bank to be raided
The elected officials- and the supporters (voters) want to have their cake and eat it too. And this isn’t just a California issue- it transcends all borders.
Oh, I agree. We have the same problem here in Alaska and it includes Republicans as well as Democrats. People really don't understand how economics works. The problem infests every state to some extent, but some states are less prone to this problem than others, which is why Elon moved to Texas, etc. So far, so good, but then these people who like more fiscally conservative policies decide they like more services like in the state they escaped and they start lobbying for things that cost money, which causes even fiscally conservative Legislatures to start looking for revenue...and the cycle starts again...unfortunately and, it seems, inevitably because human nature is always a pirate looking for someone else's money to spend.
Maybe California would prefer to have no billionaires. Of course, that means many fewer jobs and much higher taxes for everyone else.
